God Save the Queen, Sex Pistols, 1977
The mythological status of the Sex Pistols is given testimony in this instance: at the time of the release of their hit single, “God Save the Queen,” many record retailers refused to carry the record, or to even fully acknowledge it’s widespread popularity. This print is a recreation of a top ten singles chart that shows a beautiful absence–that of the Sex Pistols’ success. We find this attractive in that both the validity of the chart and the success of this particular ‘cultural revolution’ can be represented alongside one another.
